Kacie Mitterando LCSW

Hello! I’m glad you’re here. My name is Kacie and I’m a therapist licensed in both New York and New Jersey. Some of my specialties include:

  • I support both women and men in individual therapy to reduce anxious thoughts and behavior, giving them the freedom to focus on all areas of their life without feeling distracted by worry

  • I help couples break old patterns, restructure their relationship, and learn to love and treat each other in a new way

  • I help adult men and women with ADHD escape the cycle of procrastination and last minute deadlines, allowing them to feel more in control over your ADHD symptoms

  • I provide ADHD assessments for adult men and women wondering if they have ADHD and want a clearer diagnosis to be able to receive the proper treatment

My Approach To Treatment

We can spend sessions diving into bigger concerns that stem from your history or we can discuss the daily stresses that you’re having and how to navigate them. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and use CBT, alongside other modalities, in our sessions. Additionally, I am EMDR trained and offer EMDR therapy as well. I want our sessions together to be a combination of seriousness, helpfulness, healing, and sometimes the most necessary, a little humor.

Within the first few sessions, you should begin to experience relief from the distressing symptoms that you are currently having. Whether you, or your relationship, are starting therapy for the first time, picking it back up, or transitioning from another therapist, the process can be overwhelming. I want to help you navigate this process so you can begin feeling better every day.

Therapy With Me FAQs

Have you received any particular training beyond your post-Bachelor's training?

I have extensive training in ADHD as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I am IFS informed and am also trained in EMDR.

What is the best part of the work for you?

My clients sharing their innermost thoughts and pieces of their lives with me is one of the greatest privileges. I learn so much from those I work with and am often amazed and inspired by the levels of compassion, strength, and courage I see in my clients.

What is unique about the work you do, or how have you found your work to be different than your colleagues?

One aspect of sessions that I find important is humor and laughter, of course, when appropriate. I find laughter healing, and there's so much about life and therapy that we can make light of together.

Do you assign homework, activities, or readings for me to do between sessions? Why or why not?

This depends on you! If you enjoy homework and activities in between sessions and find them beneficial, I'd love to give assignments each week or as needed. If not, that's also OK. I typically give book recommendations to all clients but no pressure if that's not your thing.

  • "When I started working with Kacie, all I wanted was freedom from anxiety. Now I realize this was a low bar. I am so much closer to being the person I want to be from working with her. "

    Current Client

  • "Kacie had the patience and wisdom to usher me from a place of self loathing to the space of self acceptance. She didn't achieve this by telling me I "should love myself", as other therapists had in the past. Instead, we walked through countless conversations about my assumptions, and how they were misaligned with the truth. During these conversations, she pointed out how my resentment towards myself was harming me and others. Each session she gently suggested there might be a better way to live. This work (which was at times quite uncomfortable) was made tolerable by the hilarious sarcasm and healthy skepticism that Kacie embedded into our sessions."
